I know that Peaky Blinders is a television show, but since I don’t watch much television, I haven’t spent any time with it. Not being a fan of the series, I feel like I have an objective viewpoint on the gameplay itself. Of course, if you’re an avid spectator, you may have even stronger feelings about the game and its characters.
As tip opening : Brain begins, you are the subject of conversation between the characters of Peaky Blinders, a drink supplier to bars, etc. On the first level, the cheeky blind man has decided to steal the champagne from the competition. I had no idea how to play the game, even after reading the tutorial. After groping around a bit, clinging to the very first thing you could catch, and turning the game back a few times, I was able to complete the first level on the first try with gold status. Is it fair because I just went back to the beginning to try again every time I failed? Probably not, but they set the rules and I just follow them.
I really enjoyed it. I had to walk across town to the bar where I apparently delivered their drinks. From the conversation I had, people were a little disappointed in me because they knew they were getting their champagne from another supplier, which I thought was a little strange because obviously I don’t supply champagne or I wouldn’t be able to steal it. Anyway, I followed the directions of the bar owner and he helped me get the champagne.
Here’s the coolest part, I talk to the guy and then I check him out. I sit there and let him hold the door open as long as I can control it, then I move on to the main character and rewind the time to when I can reach the door he was trying to hold open and walk through it. I ran into one of my accomplices and she told me she was distracting the men as I passed. We do, and then I take three bottles of champagne and put them in the car. Yes, three bottles of champagne for a big party, I can only assume that those bottles are masses of champagne. It’s a little silly, but I did it in less than 4 minutes, and I had to do it in 5 minutes to get the championship gold medal. So it wasn’t too hard, but it was fun.
From then on, the levels get progressively more difficult and I must say I enjoyed the puzzles and the rewind feature, being a master of loot and revenge. Like I said, I’m not a fan of the show, so I can’t comment on the sense of dizziness you get from being able to manipulate characters from your favorite show, but it worked for me.
The view from above and the game controls were as good as I had hoped. The ability to rewind time was easy to understand once I started playing. There’s no video of the real actors or anything, it’s just drawings, it’s labeled drawings that you read while they’re talking. I didn’t know who was who, but I didn’t care because I’m a big fan of mystery and that was enough to keep me entertained. I couldn’t tell if the music was part of the show, but I really liked the opening song that was played from the beginning and the rest was good too, so I can’t complain about that either.
I think it’s safe to say that if you like a good puzzle game, and especially if you’re a Peaky Blinders fanatic, this should give you a little escape from reality to have a good time. If you’re not into puzzles, feel free to stop by.
